The game starts in medias res: on the planet Mars, the Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) has managed to activate a device for dimensional transport to exploit the infinite strength of Hell in the form of refined Argent energy to solve the energy crises of the Earth. Dr. Olivia Pierce, a member of a demonic cult, used the device to open a portal from which all sorts of demons leaked out, and some of which had mechanical parts installed in their bodies to use them as weapons, and invaded the station as a first step towards the Earth. The plot is barely hinted to make room for the pure action of the game. However it is possible to obtain data from the dialogues and clues scattered in the various levels.
The protagonist, a marine with an unknown identity, had been imprisoned from time immemorial in a magical sarcophagus of demons because he had been about to defeat them definitively. The head of the UAC expedition, Professor Samuel Hayden, sensing Dr. Pierce's plans, had recovered the sarcophagus from a trip to hell to use it as a last resort. Now practically all humans on Mars are dead or possessed by demons so the mysterious warrior is awakened.
