Doom: Going Down (Featured Mod) - Map 23: Demonology (UV-Max)
2Going Down is a 32-level megawad for Doom II released by Cyriak Harris (mouldy) in November 2014, featuring its own original soundtrack by the same author and a custom DeHackEd boss monster (replacing the Wolfenstein SS). It requires a Boom-compatible source port to play. It is known for its small, fairly hard maps with high body counts, and gameplay the author has described as "chaotic-evil".
The WAD was named as a winner of the 21st Annual Cacowards. In 2023, Going Down was also included in Doomworld's Doot Eternal music feature for Doom's 30th anniversary.
In November 2024, on the 10th anniversary of Going Down's release, Harris released a special edition of it called Going Down: Turbo. Both editions became featured mods for Doom + Doom II.
Something went wrong at a UAC office building, and Doomguy is sent to investigate, starting from the top of the skyscraper and getting to the bottom of the story. While doing so, he is often interrupted by nagging phone calls from his mother, which advance the plot humorously: accessing the secret levels, for example, is explained in-story as going back to the roof to get a better reception.
Map 23's objective is spelled out for you in the computer area map once you find it. Find the five yellow skull keys scattered throughout the map. When you approach one, it will teleport to a pillar in the central room and release another horde of monsters. Once all five have gathered in the central room, the doors will close and the pillars will lower, allowing you to grab the keys. Some rocket boxes will also appear as well as an Invulnerability and an entire army of Arch-Viles! There is also an unofficial secret in that room that can speed up the process but the Arch-Vile Army will be scattered all over the map and all the extra monsters from each individual skull key will be released all at once if you take this approach instead.
