Doom II - MAP07 - Dead Simple - 100% Kills - Fist Only (Tyson)
Since I completed MAP16 (Suburbs) "Tyson" style, and because it was so much fun and pretty well received, I've casually been wondering what map I'd like to tackle next. I ended up going with MAP07, because of the readily available Berserk in the main room, and because I couldn't immediately figure out how I was going to get past all of those Arachnotrons. I also really like this map and it felt like a nice challenge.
My strategy essentially boils down to being as careful as possible. The Mancubi in the opening room are particularly brutal when you don't have armor. One shot can halve your health, and you die very quickly after that. I don't press all of the switches right off the bat. Keeping the 4 Mancubi on their platforms means I can restrict the angles they can shoot me from, and focus on the ones on the ground. I also try to avoid the invisibility spheres as much as possible. Being invisible causes random enemy fire, and when fighting these things, it's important to know exactly how they're going to shoot at you, otherwise a stray shot can ruin your day. Then it's just a matter of abusing cover until I can scatter the Arachnotrons. After that I just take shots where I can, run away and abuse cover as much as possible. It's very possible to get sandwiched and subsequently melted on this map, so I do run away as much as I can to try and take smarter engagements.
It's very possible to be extremely bold on this map and punch enemies way more than I did. I don't know the Tyson world record, but I imagine it's somewhere around 4-6 minutes long. I wasn't going for any records, this was just something I felt like doing. I hope you like it! And now, because no one has read this far, if you have any requests for another Tyson video, let me know which map entices you and I can take a peek.
