"The rev fight is bs, the rest is pretty good, I don't know what the point of the spectre hallways was."
To me this was the hardest map in this wad, I start trying to kill some viles while the invul lasts cause they become really annoying if they start reviving cybers, the run back to the start to lure out most of the hks/barons from the next room, in this run there was a big group that didn't want to walk out so I had to wait a little bit more than usual. After pressing the switch the 2nd invul is used to kill a group of viles that spawns with the next switch and hopefully kill all the roaming viles, if just one stays alive it can be a disaster later as I'll leave this room unatended for a long time.
Now comes a big run killer, I have to press a switch outside that releases a big group of viles that I don't have the luxury of killing with an invul this time, in my first attempts I was just going for the switch but I quickly noticed I was dying almost all the time here so I decided to clear some of the revs and the vile that snipe me from the right side and some of monsters that block the way to the viles and then it's a matter of charging into the and pray they don't split too much.
Now comes a series of setpieces, the first one is a fight with 2 masterminds and some sniping monsters. I somehow died kinda often (but not that much) to this fight despite feeling like it should be a free fight, sometimes a mastermind just walked up to me and shot non stop, I really try to not hit them with the bfg to prevent this but sometimes they take a tracer and end just focusing me, maybe my strategy was not very good but I really wanted to save some bfg shots in this fight, also clearing the sniping viles is really annoying.
Next 2 fights are really easy and never killed me. The fight with the 2 cybers in the small room went wrong sometimes, you can prefire some bfg using the window looking to the previous room to make it easier but I really wanted to just go for it, maybe shouldn't but doing the fight this way looks so cool.
And now the main point of the map, a rev hallway with revs to the right side, cacos and viles to the left and some pinkies filler. This fight is so stupidly hard, the cacos take a lot of space and their corpses make it hard to see the fireballs, if you go to the left side of the hallway you get in range of the viles army and if you use the left side wall for cover you can't dodge rev missiles. Moving in an oval pattern is the only reasonable way I got to dodge most of the missiles but this fight still killed a lot of attempts, also 80 seconds after pressing the switch a crusher kills the viles makes them target you outside their maximum range while doing it, so you better finish killing the revs before this happens.
The comes a completely trivial fight and the spectre hallways that I don't understand their point other than trying to make me miss a monster by not seeing a spectre or forgetting some of them, good attempt noreason, but this never happened in a demo.
The blue key fight was surprisingly hard for me, it was painful when I died here cause it's supposedly after the hard part of the map, you can just rush the masterminds and use that space to survive the fight but I felt this was too slow as you easily run out of cells this way, so I went for a strategy that tries to use most of the cells in the hallways before going to the masterminds, but that made me die sometimes to being bad at dodging rev missiles or sometimes to getting blocked by too many barons on the hallways when trying to get to the masterminds.
After this comes the last fight where I could reasonably die, and of course I did, twice I think, to infighting rockets and to getting blocked by hks/barons while trying to get to the cells on the sides.
The fight when arriving back at the initial area is pretty easy, luckily none of the viles survived so almost everything was dead, I take this fight a little bit safe as at this point reaching the exit should be free, but being too safe cost me being able to get a sub30 time :/, anyway I still think it's better than risking a "won" run and having to run this for even more days to get here again. I got a little bit worried when at the ending all 4 cybers decided to go around the corner to shoot me instead of staying back to infight and come one by one as planned but I managed to salvage the situation.
Up until today there is only one more run of the map by mmjp08 who dedicated quite a lot of time attempting it, he uses some nice safer strats for many of the fights so it's a nice run to check out if you want to play the map for yourself, this map resists so much that even uploading this is being hard and the youtube encoder failed it's attempts at it twice making me upload this 3 times.
