DOOM II: The Ghoul's Forest (Obligatory Halloween 2012 Stuff: Part 1)
What? The end of October already? Awww fuck.
Yes, it's approaching that time of year again, and I suppose some of you want this sort of themed shit to go along with it. That's fair enough, although I'm not really getting anything out of such a deal. This one is an old pseudo-request from Mistylear19, and one that was made as far back as June.
Not a specific Halloween request, though. Just something I decided to save until now, because it meant that I didn't have to think of anything myself. Now that's using your brain.
Besides, it's certainly much better than my efforts from last year's pathetic Halloween offering (which seems to have disappeared completely for some inexplicable reason), but that's really not saying much. That wasn't even legitimate Halloween stuff, just a regular shitty map with a shitty photo of some incredibly bizarre fool pasted onto the end, with a robot voice reading a comment.
Remember that one?
No? What do you mean no?
Eh, whatever. I'm not surprised. Let's never speak of it again.
Right, so then. The Ghoul's Forest, released 02/27/05. What is there to say about this one?
Not much. Run like fuck and shoot a badly-animated face before it eats you alive, or something like that. Despite having nothing more to it, this one will REALLY test your ability to maintain a perfect SR40 line with frequent 180 turns. Reasonably fun for a novelty WAD, but not exactly something to get worked up over. Once it's done, that's it. Into the folder of "stuff I beat", or maybe even the Recycle Bin.
It briefly enjoyed a moment of popularity over at Skulltag (now known as Zandronum), with several servers hosting ludicrous playercounts, but the novelty soon wore off once victory was achieved a couple of times -- not exactly a difficult thing either when it's co-op, and more so when everyone realised the map could be beaten without even waking the ghoul (known as Choke), making the whole exercise rather pointless to bother with.
I battle the abomination 'fairly' here, a one-on-one fight to the death, although when you think about it there's nothing fair about this at all. It's beatable (obviously), but it's an incredibly fucking cheap experience. Don't expect any feelings of gratification if you survive this one yourself, it's a pretty hollow victory to achieve.
Recommended? As a curiosity, I suppose you could take a look. The sequel's better though. But you'll have to be patient for a video of that to arrive.
No, not for a fucking year. A couple of days or something. Go away and wait for it.
