Doom on the 32X – A Surprisingly Playable Mess
After the weird ride that was Doom on the 3DO, a few folks in the comments suggested I check out the Sega 32X version, and here we are. This one actually surprised me. It’s extremely playable compared to the 3DO port, with smoother controls, more consistent performance, and yes, it does have music.
Doom on 32X launched in November 1994, and to even play it, you needed the 32X add-on, which retailed for $159.99 at launch. That was on top of the Genesis you already had. Even with trimmed content like missing bosses and fewer levels, it still holds up surprisingly well for the time.
This is running on RetroArch using the PicoDrive core.
