Doom Wads/Mods The Rejected #59:Arcadia Demade
https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/Ports/a-c/arcadia There's a method to this madness, Think you know the answer? In the case of other games' levels appearing as Doom levels, This concept I like since it shows what the Doom engine is capable of, and in this wad's case? Wow, Is it something.
Arcadia Demade is a single level PWAD released in April 2010 which won at that year's cacoawards, placed at 57 in the Top 100 most memorable maps of all time and authored by J.P. LeBreton, and is a re-creation of BioShock's 5th level named Arcadia and the Farmer's Market area, which will surprise you, that J.P. was the level designer on BioShock and BioShock 2 and managed to transfer that level into Doom with such mastery.
A Sense of fear and dread is what hits first, thanks in no small feat to "Arcadia, Arcadia Demade" composed by PRIMEVAL (John S. Weekly), This map is oppressive thanks to its more blue tinted saturation palate and ample usage of jumpscare. It's been a longtime since I have actually played BioShock but if you look at a map in the BradyGames guide, and then at this map's layout? It fits just like a puzzle piece, I got lost and wasn't sure where the exit was but I loved this wad, as it plays ever bit the part of the original level from BioShock and the signature Doom horror spliced into it.
[[This is another drop off from the cancelled Hidden Gems special, It was during the time that I had played BioShock through Steam to get myself ready to tackle Arcadia Demade, Its rare for wads to give a general sense of fear irl but like TNT Devilution, Something about Arcadia Demade... just feels off
I Should note that J.P. Lebreton has a site that documents his creation and inspiration behind Arcadia Demade, Beware of Spoilers, however http://vectorpoem.com/arcadia/notes.html ]]
