DOOM1996.WAD -- DOOM 2016 demake for DOOM 2 (vanilla!)
I'm trying to capture the feel of DOOM 2016 in vanilla DOOM 2. Pretending it to be the DOOM 3 campaign id could have made. You know, the one John Carmack said they should have done.
I played DOOM 2016 six years after its release, and was amazed how well it captures the essence of DOOM. I could envision every arena being a classic DOOM map. I just HAD to try and capture DOOM 2016's design and mechanics - without altering code or assets!
So after 30 years I was back into DOOM mapping. I had no idea how much I can get out of this - personally and gameplay-wise. It is very fulfilling and uplifting being able to follow a bloody red thread while challenging my creativity in order to make it feel like a worthy classic DOOM 3 episode that never was.
Map + Video made within 7 consecutive days.
UltimateDoomBuilder used for mapping.
Zandronum 3 used for testing, including online coop.
It should be compatible with all limit-removing source ports, possibly even classic DOOM (I have no idea whether I've hit any limits).
Where? Not yet.
When? When it's done.
I really should have a .plan, right? :)
