Psychonauts 2 has been developed with “no crunch”, according to Double Fine Senior Producer Kevin Johnson.

Johnson shared the news via Twitter over the weekend, where he wrote: “Fun fact: Psychonauts 2 has had no crunch. The team has been amazing and I'm proud to have been a part of something so special that's been made in the schedule we set forth. I think you'll have fun too.”

The upcoming third-person platformer was recently revealed to be releasing on August 25, 2021, a date that was announced as part of a new trailer during the E3 2021 Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase.

A description of the game as per James Spafford, Communication Manager at Double Fine Productions reads: “Psychonauts 2 is an exciting journey through the mind filled with the signature Double Fine humor and heart, and a touch of next-level platforming.
“You play as Razputin Aquato, a trained acrobat and powerful young psychic, who has realized his lifelong dream of joining the international psychic espionage organization known as the Psychonauts. But these psychic super spies are in trouble. Raz must use his powers to bring the murderous psychic villain, Maligula, back from the dead!”

Psychonauts 2 will be released on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 (with backwards compatibility), and PC, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. It was also revealed that the game will be released on Mac and Linux in the future.
