PlayStation boss Jim Ryan is a fan of cross-play
PlayStation chief Jim Ryan is a big fan of cross-play.
Sony supports and encourages cross-play across its ecosystem, according to Ryan, who admitted that he wants to see cross-platform multiplayer, or cross-play, in more video games in the future.
He told Axios: "We support and encourage cross-play."
He observed that cross-play with PlayStation works on various well-known titles, including 'Fortnite', 'Rocket League', 'Call of Duty' and 'Minecraft'.
And Ryan is keen to see that trend continue in the coming months and years.
He said: "That number will continue to grow."
By contrast, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford recently claimed that 'Borderlands 3' would receive cross-play support on all platforms except PlayStation.
He wrote on Twitter last month: "For certification, we have been required by the publisher to remove crossplay support for PlayStation consoles."
In response, Ryan insisted he did not wish to discuss a "live business issue with a long-standing partner".
However, he noted that the company's policies "are consistent across all of the publishers".
