Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors Playtest (GBA/VisualBoyAdvance) - With Commentary!
I'm trying out the GameBoy Advance title "Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors" released in 2004, a fighting-game using similar sprites as the earlier SNES/Super Nintendo titles in a completely new and fresh way. The battles are very fast-paced, unlike anything seen before in a DBZ-title and it is easy to pull off moves and learn the controls. The game is the most impressive 2D DBZ fighting-game as of its release in 2004 - and there had been games ever since 1992 that were fighting-games set in the DBZ franchise.
I did enjoy playing this game. it felt fresh and new while still using retro SNES graphics in a revolutionary new way. An oldschool fighter but completely new in how it plays. It has a Z-battle arcade-mode, a free battle-mode, 1 vs 1 and Tag Team 3 VS 3, a Challenge-mode, a multiplayer-mode which requires two GBA systems and a link-cable unfortunately - and it has a Story Mode for every character including what-if's for each character.
You unlock modes and characters by buying them in the shop after earning points in the different game-modes.
I do unlock Android 18 in this video, while trying out almost every mode.
This game is the only great or even good fighting-game on the GBA set in the DBZ franchise. It beats anything before it using 2D sprites.
