Dragon Quest IX Playthrough #114, Ultimate Key Treasures
This is video #114 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. This video does not contain commentary. To view the commentary version, click here: http://youtu.be/h1S_NodizNg
The Goddess Celestria has revealed why she became Yggdrasil, the World Tree, and she has told Heorot where to find the true villain that seeks to destroy the world. So, it is time to return to the mortal world.
To that end, Heorot chats with Sterling (time 0:37) and Stella (time 1:13). Then, he boards the Starflight Express again (time 1:56). Sterling's list of stops now includes the Realm of the Almighty and Gittingham Palace. There are a few things to do before heading to Gittingham Palace, so the party takes the golden choo-choo to Alltrades Abbey.
To start with, the party will head around to open doors with the Ultimate Key that they got from the Gortress. After making their three-point landing, they head to Stornway and go to Stornway Castle. The Ultimate Key unlocks the doors in the Stornway Castle prison (time 3:48). Not much of note here, though.
The next door that they can open is the prison door in Coffinwell's well (time 5:22). The prisoner within assigns the party Quest 011: The Not-So-Great Escape. He wants a set of Hammer Handrills to help him break out of prison. Uh, we just unlocked the door...
Anyway, to make Hammer Handrills, the party needs 1 set of Handrills, 5 Iron Nails, and 1 Iron Ore. The Handrills can be bought in Gleeba, among other places. Iron Nails drop from Clockwork Cuckoos, Killing Machines, and Shocktopi. Iron Ore can be farmed in various places, including Newid Isle.
My party already has most of the ingredients, so all they need to do is get the Handrills in Gleeba (time 6:51). Then, they head to Krak Pot in the Stornway inn (time 7:36). They make the Hammer Handrills with the recipe. The recipe can be found in the Mirage Mahal in Gleeba.
After cooking up the Hammer Handrills, they take them to the dubious client in Coffinwell's well jail (time 8:54). Why are we helping out a criminal, by the way? Anyway, in return for the Hammer Handrills, he gives them an Unhappy Hat.
The party next Zooms to Zere. Aboard their ship, they go down to the Hold (time 11:10). Finally, they can open the brig door and open two chests to acquire a Falcon Blade and a Seed of Agility. The Falcon Blade has fairly low attack power, but it is capable of striking an enemy twice with one attack.
The party next heads up to Doomingale Forest to check for another Mini Medal in the northwest ruins. And as luck would have it, they find Mini Medal #037 (time 12:52).
The next stop on their itinerary is Bloomingdale. In the town's northeast well, there is a locked red chest within a jail cell (time 13:34). This chest contains a pair of Mayoress's Mittens, handwear that resists Dazzle and Confusion. Sounds good to me, except that Paladins cannot equip them.
Next, they head to Gleeba. The next prison door to open is down in the Plumbed Depths. First, they have to go through the Magic Key door in the north of level B1 (time 16:50). The first cell in the prison beyond contains a red chest with some Saint's Ashes.
Then, they travel to Batsureg and make their way from there to Gerzuun. In Gerzuun, they go down the southeast set of stairs near the entrance (time 19:37). One of the cells on B1 contains a red chest with a Thug's Mug. Oh, how thugly!
Next, they make their way to Dourbridge and Max Meddlin's place (time 20:55). There is a small treasure trove locked behind a prison door: Mini Medal #038, Demon Whip (cursed), Saint's Ashes, Skull Ring (cursed), and 3,000 Gold. A nice little stash.
Also, with the Ultimate Key, the party can go through a hidden jail door behind the item shop (time 22:17). This leads them to the Secret Shop. Some nice equipment is available here, including the Cheiron's Bow, Headsman's Axe, and Sturdy Slacks. Come here with plenty in your wallet.
Next, the party will carry out some weapon skill quests before heading to Gittingham Palace.
Thanks for watching!
