This is video #045 in my playthrough of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. This video does not contain commentary. To view the commentary version, click here: http://youtu.be/zmvNB8hzR5E

Lightning is searching for the Soul Fragments needed to restore Dajh's soul in the Wildlands. The fifth and final piece will be found in the Dead Dunes, which Lightning has not visited yet.

So, at the South Station in Luxerion, she takes the train to the Dead Dunes. The Dead Dunes certainly lives up to its name. A brief scene takes place as Light arrives (time 0:38). Also, a warp point for the Dead Dunes Station becomes available.

Another scene occurs when Lightning moves to leave the station (time 1:59). The Lazy Station Worker tells her about this place. Apparently, legend tells of some artifact that just might interest Lightning.

A little northeast of the station exit, there is a message board on a stone marker (time 3:19). There is also an Outfitters salesman standing nearby (time 4:26). He has a couple of garbs available, Passion Rouge and Dust and Shadow.

Most importantly, there is a Red Cactuar Statue nearby (time 5:14). Examining these statues will activate them as warp points for Lightning's use. How convenient! These ought to be in all four regions.

First, Lightning heads east to the Giant's Sandbox. The eastern edge goes down to the sea. Along this seaside area, Lightning finds an interesting object called a Pilgrim's Crux (time 7:39).

From there, she returns to the main expanse of the Giant's Sandbox and heads northwest. Atop a hill near an entrance to the Temple Ruins, there is a treasure ball with a Metal Armband (time 10:59). This accessory increases resistance to Deprotect by 100%.

In the northwest of the Giant's Sandbox, Lightning passes under an archway that leads to the Dry Floodlands (time 12:08). Aptly named.

Directly to the west, Lightning can find and climb a watchtower (time 14:24). Probably not much of interest, though. North of this watchtower, she will find another Red Cactuar Statue (time 15:18). This is right outside the Dry Floodlands Shrine. Another marker is nearby (time 15:31).

Northeast of there, she will find a swirling sandstorm with a strange-looking Cactuar in its midst. To the north of this sandstorm is a stone monument (time 16:34). When she puts the Pilgrim's Crux that she found earlier in this monument, the sandstorm dissipates!

After a little preparation, she takes on the strange-looking Cactuar, which is called a Cactair (time 18:23). Check out its afro! I wonder if this is the Cactuar that gave Sazh such trouble back in Final Fantasy XIII. Oddly enough, Fire magic will stagger it. Just avoid Ice-based magic like the plague. It will employ Wind-based attacks, so it will be a good idea to have a Stormbane Choker for wind protection. It will also use the dreaded 1,000 Needles, an attack that cannot be blocked. It has very high defense.

After defeating the Cactair, Lightning receives an ATB Charge Lv. 1 ability, a Fragment of Kindness, and a Cactuar Doll (time 23:19). Also, she will have exterminated all the Cactairs in the world. Naturally, Lumina will show up for another scene.

Next, Lightning returns to the Red Cactuar Statue nearby and teleports to the Dead Dunes Station (time 26:42). From there, she takes a train back to the Wildlands (time 27:12). I also got the Perfect Passenger trophy for taking all the train routes in the world.

The next matter of business will be to take all five Soul Fragments to Sazh and Dajh.

Thanks for watching!
