Dragon Quest IX Playthrough #197, Quest 137: Yore for it Now!
This is video #197 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. This video does not contain commentary. To view the commentary version, click here: https://youtu.be/RxsENUvBds8
The party will continue the Back to Brigadoom quest line with Quest 137. There are two prerequisites for this one: Quest 128: P-P-Pick Up a Pickaxe and Quest 135: "To Brigadoom!"
The client for this quest is the man himself, King Schott of Stornway (time 1:02). In Quest 128, the party helped discover a crypt underneath the castle well. This could be related to the disturbing dreams His Majesty has been having. King Schott assigns the party Quest 137: "Yore for it Now!" to examine the coffin.
From the castle's northeast door, the party descends into the well (time 5:23).
In the secret crypt, they chat with Princess Simona (time 6:26). Apparently, she knew about this crypt from the book she opened with the key. When the king arrives, Princess Simona revives Yore, the demon that was sleeping in the coffin, and reveals a terrible truth about Brigadoom's destruction. But I wouldn't hold King Schott, however narrow-minded he may be, responsible for such an atrocity. Yore is not inclined to grant Simona's wish, though, because he also was betrayed. Sounds like he's taking things a bit too far.
After the scene, the party will have the opportunity to prepare before confronting Yore. There is also some interesting dialogue when they talk to Princess Simona (time 12:32). Evidently, Morag was in Yore's service. How despicable.
When ready, the party confronts Yore (time 13:29). After those recent challenging grottos, Yore is not the hardest boss. Yore can exhale a cloud of blinding light, which can hit each party member for about 75 points of damage. He can boost his tension.
Yore's tension can be taken care of with a Disruptive Wave or Soothe Sayer. Other than that, the party just has to strengthen themselves and let this foe have it. A lower-leveled party would do well with Insulatle and Multiheal.
Yore may drop Aggressence upon defeat.
After the battle, Yore is taken out for good (time 17:20). That's it for Stornway's unauthorized tenant. The party will have to talk with King Schott in his throne room.
Up in the throne room, when the party talks to the king, the princess will provide a more thorough explanation (time 19:23). It sounds like their royal Stornway ancestor was a bit of a jerk, to put it mildly. But ironically, that king gave Mona the ring that could undo Yore's seal. Poor Mona. For once, I agree with King Schott in the matter. The king rewards the party with a Wyrmwand as a token of his gratitude. He also teaches the party several recipes: Stratotoga, Archangel's Robe, Master's Gloves, Immortal Trousers, and Sagacious Sandals. Nice!
The questing will continue in the next episode.
