Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (NDS) Pt. 6
What is Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride?
Well, for one thing, it's the second game in the Zenithian Trilogy, the other thing is that it differentiates itself from most other games in the Dragon Quest series in a number of ways, a few of which I can't actually mention without delving super hard into spoiler territory. But one of the first things about Dragon Quest V that you'll notice is that the Hero is often depicted with a staff instead of a sword, and there is a reason for that, but again, that delves into spoiler territory. I will, however, tell you that yes, this Dragon Quest Hero can also wield swords with the best of ;em, but they aren't this hero's best weapon, is all.
Another area where Dragon Quest V differentiates itself from other Dragon Quest games is your ability to recruit monsters into your party after a certain number of battles with that enemy under certain conditions. However, only certain monsters can actually join your party. Oh, and by the way, before you ask, yes, this is the game that inspired Pokemon's monster catching mechanic, to an extent. It certainly played a role in Pokemon's creation.
The game's music isn't bad, I really like it, but I like Dragon Quest IV and VI's music the most out of the Zenithian Trilogy of Dragon Quest games, meaning that of the three, V's music is my least favorite. That's not saying it's bad, just not as good as the other two games.
Graphics-wise, on the SNES, the sprites and tilesets were all a major upgrade to Dragon Quest IV on the NES, but as I'm playing the DS version here, it uses the exact same graphics engine as the DS version of Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen, which I have already uploaded the main playthrough of up to this channel. Please let me know if you want me to do the post game of Dragon Quest IV!
All in all, an excellent addition to the Dragon Quest series, but while it may be Yuji Horii's favorite, it isn't mine, unfortunately, although I can definitely see why he and others would like it, due to it's uniqueness among Dragon Quest games. Speaking of, what is YOUR favorite Dragon Quest mainline series game?
