This is video #106 in my playthrough of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. I am playing the Western version for the Sony PlayStation 4. Previously, the party wrapped up their exploration of sea and sky. Now, they will head to the Battleground in the southwestern sky. They will begin searching for the special ore that they can use to forge another Sword of Light.

Before beginning their flight, they Zoom to L'Académie to turn in their Mini Medals. They have amassed a total of 70 Mini Medals so far. I'm just doing this to make counting Mini Medals a little easier. At 75 Mini Medals, the party will earn a Circle of Serendipity.

Then, the party takes to the skies with the Calamus Flute. They land at the Battleground in the southwestern sky. Approaching the pillar ahead of them, they light it with the Guiding Light's flame. When lit, it allows the party to explore the Battleground. I guess this is the game's way of preventing you from exploring this place before getting the Guiding Light.

A ramp provides access to floors B1 - B4. There are also some strategically placed holes that the party can use if they so desire. Among the enemies here are Vicious Liquid Metal Slimes, which provide a lot of experience when defeated. Use abilities like Erik's Critical Claim, Hendrik's Hatchet Man, Serena and Jade's Thunder Thrust, or Jade's Lightning Thrust. Hunting them here might be tempting.

At Level 45, Serena learns the excellent spell Kazing. At Level 44, Rab learns the spell Kacrack. At Level 44, Jade gets the Spears ability Crushed Ice. At Level 44, Hendrik gets the Shields ability Desperate Measures.

In the southern chamber on floor B2, a chest contains Mini Medal #071.

In the northern chamber on floor B3, a chest contains the recipe book "An Encyclopaedia of Expert Equipment". It contains recipes for Ogre Shields, Brigand's Mitts, and Titan Belts. Not bad.

On floor B4, past a crawlway to the west of the ramp, the party finds the Battleground Campsite. Excellent place to rest and save.

With the Fun-Size Forge, the party cooks up a Full Fathom Fork for Jade.

At the base of the ramp on floor B4, the party can defeat a Dragooner and claim its dragon mount to reach ledges on higher floors.

In the northeast of floor B4, a treasure chest is actually a Pandora's Box. Say it ain't so! It has powerful crits, Drain Magic, and Kathwack. In essence, it sucks. You might want to pack some Dieamends for protection. Fortunately, upon its defeat, it drops a Seed of Skill.

At Level 45, Sylvando gets the Swords ability Dragon Slash.

On floor B2, the northwest opening is accessible while riding a Dragooner's dragon. The chest here is also a Pandora's Box. Like the other one, it drops a Seed of Skill when defeated.

Back down on floor B4, the party rests and saves at the campsite. Next time, they will begin exploring the depths of the Battleground.
