Dragon View (1994,SNES) (1): The Adventure Begins.
17I first heard about this game from gaming website Hardcore Gaming 101 and it intrigued me. I have never played this game before, so this will be interesting. So, not knowing what to expect, I'm going in this with an open mind.
Anyway, Dragon View is a one player only side scrolling Action/Adventure/RPG released in 1994 for the SNES. It was published by Kemco and developed by Atari Europe. The game was released in Japan under the titles "Super Drakkhen" or "Drakkhen II" and was apparently the prequel to the 1989 game Drakkhen.
The game's mechanics feature a huge pseudo 3D open world, side view action RPG gameplay sequences (these happen when in combat or exploring dungeons and towns). The game is also very story driven and highly rewards the player for exploration.
As with most RPG's, there is a levelling up system gained through battle experience points, which increases our heroes power, magic, skills, etc. Also, exploring certain areas, gains our hero, special items, weapons upgrades, HP increases, additional fighting skills etc. So, basically, the idea of this game is explore, explore, explore!.
Plotwise, the game takes place on the fictional isle of Drakken. Our hero, Alex is a warrior in training and engaged to Katarina, the daughter of Rysis (Alex's hometown) village elder, Master Qunos. One day, the evil wizard Argos appears and kidnaps Katarina. Full of determination, Alex sets about on his quest to save Katarina. So, Young boy and girl fall in love, evil wizard kidnaps girl, boy rescues girl, simple story really...or is it?. Lets find out. Let the adventure begin!
