Have had a physical copy of this game sitting for quite a while and finally got around to trying it, though it comes with some mixed feelings. This was completed at level 77 (really the main things that matter in the video are arrow upgrades, particularly quiver size and amount of clone arrows). Admittedly looked up a video guide (here: https://youtu.be/duPl9vQIaUs?si=DlgGktzSGcFH3r0q ) as I *really* didn’t want to grind anymore (nearly came to this strategy myself after several failed attempts, but I wasn’t charging my arrow shots which is apparently significantly lower dps, and handled knocking back the orb attacks slightly worse). This game has already been solved time and time again by others I’m sure, so hosting here just for personal reasons (this run was by no means perfect).

This boss is a little uninteresting imo; was kind of a letdown my first playthrough. Very much feels like a punching bag, with the skeletons being more annoying to handle than most of the dragon’s attacks as they potentially put you through another curl of the dragon’s swoop attack + heal combo. This is especially true going in solo, where you’ll end up losing your party members partway (many times I dodge roll on the side of the screen to get them away from being hit by fire/swoop attacks, but even then it still ends up happening), which aren’t helpful for damaging the boss so much as they are for just distracting the skeletons. It is very much a rinse and repeat damage check kind of boss, which just felt lousy to me.

That said, I can appreciate the game for what it does right. The gameplay loop while repetitive I found to be surprisingly addictive to do consecutive runs through each of the stages, and found Elf fun to juggle with in solo with kicks and snipe from afar or pierce clumped up enemies with vertical arrow shots. I didn’t play multiplayer (too cheap to buy a subscription), but can see that being enjoyable too. The RPG aspects are hit-or-miss to me; very much has the issue at least early on where weapons have small percentage-based boosts you hardly can tell make a substantive difference and quest objectives often feel phoned in (though treasure art/lore is cool). The art while I get the point is absurd and tbh feels like fetish art far too often (especially treasure art; not just Sorceress) which breaks immersion, though landscape and enemy designs overall look extremely good and imaginative. Worthwhile successor to something like Golden Axe, but unsure if I appreciate the simplicity of Golden Axe or length/complexity of Dragon’s Crown more.
