I've seen a lot of channel intros and I've come to the conclusion that if it's gonna have audio, it can't be longer than 5 seconds (game grumps, ashens), but the best intros are the ones that are quick (~2 seconds), silent or near-silent, and seamlessly fade into the video (oatsngoats, GDQ). The aspect about not interrupting the video is the most important one. I believe a 2-minute kingdom hearts AMV intro or an obnoxious 3D animated word art with dubstep intro could be made tolerable if after the first 2 seconds it's shrunk down to a semi-transparent picture-in-picture and the volume reduced to 10% so the video the viewers came for can be seen and heard :P
