Dredd (2012): A Movie That Held Up Extremely Well
Intro from the movie Dredd (2012) featuring the character Judge Dredd, originally seen in the British 2000AD comic series. Dredd, as narrator, explains in the intro that he's a "street judge", one of many needed to rapidly dispense justice in a crime-ridden, overcrowded future city called Mega City One. Judge Dredd was originally set in the 2030s, a future that seemed incredibly distant to me back in the 80s when I was reading the comics. I wasn't too worried that it would come to pass, because I was sure we'd grow much more intelligent as a society. Long story short, we didn't. We got dumber. Not only is overcrowding and lack of resources a very real possibility, we've restarted the arms race and added pandemics into the mix.
Dredd is now one of the nicer possibilities for our future - at least in Dredd's dystopian future, there are still people like Dredd uncorrupt and unselfish enough to fight for justice.
