Dragons ruled the world kind of like dinos but smarter, then these gods were created by the first flame (which basically means the first bonfire) and started a war to take over the world, one of these gods (Furtive Pygmy) created humanity using The Dark Soul to help fight, but that’s basically all we know about him. Other than Seath the Scaleless who betrayed them, all the great dragons died out and the gods won, and the Age of Fire began. Slowly but surely the world started to be enveloped by darkness, and Gwyn (basically allfather) feared this fact. Slowly but surely as the world started to get closer to ending people realized and started to try to rekindle the first flame, and in turn bring order back to the world. Now there’s been many cases where people tried to get around this because rekindling the fire is a big sacrifice, the most prominent is The Witch of Izalith you’re about to hear about in the intro who tried to make a duplicate of the first flame using her pyromancies, but instead transformed her and most of her family into demons, which Gwyn then had to force down into the depths, spoiler: We’ll meet them later. Eventually, Gwyn gave up and relit the fire himself, and the Age of Fire was extended with his great soul but before doing so Gwyn split his soul and gave it to his allies. But not everyone wanted the Age of Fire to continue, some wanted an Age of Darkness instead, at the beginning of their mission they revived one of the first humans, and they were driven mad with corruption, and they spread that corruption to create abominations of the abyss. He was defeated by Artorius, one of Gwyn’s knights, but the mission to begin the Age of Darkness is unending. All of this brings us to modern-day. The Age of Fire is ending once more. All the gods have all created grand kingdoms all with their own stories to tell, and along with them they have become lazy and comfortable, along with that they also created massive asylums to hold the undead, and whoever could defeat the warden has a big chance to be the chosen undead who will rekindle the flame. So basically our job as the chosen undead is to go around the world and collect the fragments of Gwyn’s soul in order to rekindle the first flame. We also have a different option, to bring the world into darkness. Now, in reality, the world is supposed to be turned to darkness, it’s like a next era, but Gwyn kind of manipulated everyone into believing that the age of darkness is a terrible thing but in reality no one knows.
