Prologue (part 2) :
( STORY )
Another scene follows as you transfer back to the hot rod vehicle with Jones. As you arrive back in that driver seat, he's telling you that next it makes sense to head to the chop shop. Do as he suggests, still relying on the indicator to make the task an easy one.

To reach the next quest marker, it's easiest again to stick to the main street. The map indicator will show your destination off to the right as you speed along a main strip, but there are no access streets until you drive past it and then loop back around. When you finally arrive, another scene follows and then the game will walk you through the process of switching from one vehicle to the next. Follow the on-screen directions and familiarize yourself with the process, which you'll be putting to frequent use throughout the game's remainder.

Your mini-tutorial ends with instructions to shift into a cab. That should be easy, as there will be several taxi cabs in the area. Pick one and shift to it, then drive it toward the area indicated on the map. You should come into view of a beautiful sports car sitting on the side of the road, and the game will instruct you to shift into it.

Do as you are told and you'll find yourself taking a test drive in the car. The game explains that you can complete such missions to make other missions available in-game, which is definitely of interest. Drive around in the car and complete the on-screen directions. First you'll have to overtake 10 drivers (just race around the streets and pass a lot of people), then get some air within the indicated area. For the second task, just drive as quickly as you can and when you go flying over the top of a hill, you should easily get the required lift. The salesman will ask you to return to the lot, which you'll agree to do, but as you go you should find another challenge that you can complete.

Here, the goal is to drive through 18 gates in a minute and a half or less. You'll descend along a series of switchbacks that do a good job of familiarizing you with the process of taking ridiculously tight turns, then after that you'll have to race along a relatively straight stretch with traffic. When you reach the end of the route, assuming that you do so before the timer expires, you will be instructed to return to Tanner's car.

Tanner's car is indicated on the map by a yellow circle with a white letter 'T' in its center, so you should be able to look to the mini-map to find it. While in spirit form for a shift, you can fly around the city like a bird, zooming down one street after another, so there's no particular cause for concern if the car isn't immediately in view. When you at last find it and try to return, though, you'll be informed that you need to complete more missions. Some police cruisers race past and you can leap into one of them to keep things going.

The goal while you are in the police cruiser is to catch up to a speeder and then to ram him repeatedly so that he doesn't have a chance to get away. As the game informs you, this must be done without falling out of range for 10 seconds. The car will speed through busy traffic in an effort to lose you, but if you drive cautiously you should keep up with him and you can hit him a few times from behind. You don't have to be going especially fast, just fast enough to overtake the other car. When you damage the vehicle enough, it will crash to a halt and then you can return to Tanner's car.
