DS, Xbox 360, & Gamecube Games! Retro Pickups From My Childhood Vacation Area Shawano Lake Wisconsin
36In this video we share our retro pickups from one of our childhood vacation areas in Shawano, WI.
While there is a saying that you can't go home again, there are times when you can go back and revisit old stomping grounds. I had a chance to do just that in August of 2020 to return to my childhood vacation area, Shawano, WI. Located about 30-miles west of Green Bay, I've been coming to Shawano and Shawano Lake since I was 2 or 3 years old. This has been an area I have enjoyed fishing, boating, and shopping at local small businesses. As such, I knew there was a chance I could find some retro goodness locally and Shawano once again didn't disappoint.
The local Goodwill store didn't have a huge selection of games, but what they had was decent. The first thing that caught my eye was a copy of Halo 4 for the Xbox 360. I've played the first game a little on the OG XBox, and I've liked what I've played there. Everything they had on hand was only $3.99 each, so for $4 it was worth a shot to me. From here I also picked up a copy of Plants vs. Zombies, and what was initially the clear winner, SSX Tricky for the GameCube. SSX is worth $20 on its own, so to get these three titles for $12. I thought it was a pretty good score.
As I was checking out, I noticed there were some DS games in the showcase behind the checker. I looked before leaving, and I saw what I thought was Mario 64 DS in a 4-game case. Sure enough, there it was, but it also had other games in that case. Mario Kart DS, Bakugan & Guitar Hero on Tour were also in the case. In the end I spent $16 on $65 worth of games, that was a pretty good difference in my book!
The last time I vacationed here was in 2014, and when I was here I visited a reseller called Mojos Electronics. I had seen a boxed NES Power Set back then and I actually passed on it at the time. This visit they didn't have that boxed set but they DID have a Power Pad and a Power Pad Box. I was able to negotiate a pretty good price for both of these items and, while the box isn't in the greatest of shapes, it's in ok shape and it didn't cost me that much more than the Power Pad itself.
In addition to the Power Pad, I did also pick up a game for the XBox I've been looking to add to the collection for some time. I love Banjo Kazooie, and I've never played Nuts and Bolts. Well, I was able to puck up a copy for $9.99, but that's not all. This pack also included a copy of Viva Pinata. I've never played this, but heard a lot of great things about it. Since the whole set was only $9.99, and all the manuals and booklets were there, I was glad to make this investment.
The last time I was here was to spread my dad's ashes after his passing in 2019, so to return to spend time with him was good for my heart. I was thrilled to be able to help create new memories with my daughters, my wife, and my in-laws. The fact that I was able to get some amazing retro gaming pickups was just icing on the cake for me. I'm glad I was able to get these additions to my collection, but what's tops for me was the time with my family.
