DTysonator & WizWar100 TOADALLY Beat Battletoads! (Sega Genesis)
DTysonator (1P-Rash) & WizWar100 (2P-Zitz) FINALLY & TOADALLY beat the Sega Genesis version of Battletoads together from start to finish without using warps, dedicating their run to Robin Williams, who may or may not have been watching.
Recorded live at A & C World in Toronto, ON Canada on August 12th, 2014 while playing the official Sega Genesis Battletoads game on a Super Nintendo with official controllers, through an adapter called the RetroGEN.
This device allows Sega Genesis cartridges to be played on a Super Nintendo. The main reason why we chose to use it to beat this game, was due to the unreliable D-pad found on the Sega Genesis controller, which makes Level 11 Clinger-Winger seem WAY harder than it actually is!
The Super Nintendo D-pad is much more accurate with its directional inputs, so I would highly recommend playing Battletoads for the Sega Genesis with this controller instead, especially during a two-player run!
For the record, both WizWar100 and myself have beaten this game on 1P mode on an actual Sega Genesis, while using the Sega Genesis controller, but obviously died a LOT more, due to controller issues.
Faulty D-pad aside, this version of Battletoads is surprisingly more challenging at times! This is extremely noticeable during the following levels:
Level 3: Turbo Tunnel (the mid-air ramps are less responsive, particularly when playing on 2P mode as both players aren't allowed to bounce off of them at the same time, no joke!)
-Level 4: Arctic Caverns (slightly altered platform jumps, cheaper barriers that crush the Battletoads WAY more consistently!)
-Level 6: Karnath's Lair (some of the snake jumps are tighter and it's REALLY easy to slide off of the final snake for instant death!)
-Level 9: Terra Tubes (while the electrical robots are now a refreshing breeze, as they no longer kill the Battletoads by touch, the sharks are extremely vicious in comparison, outracing the wheels is also a LOT closer than it should be and finally, grabbing the final propeller is REALLY awkward on 2P mode!)
-Level 10: Rat Race (The rats can no longer be hit, the second race has cheaper gas hazards and the final rat is REALLY fast!)
-Level 11: Clinger-Winger (the Buzzball/Hypno Orb is EXTREMELY fast/cheap on vertical planes, a solid D-pad is highly recommended to get through this mess of a level!)
-Level 12: The Revolution (the clouds are cheaper, especially the larger ones on 2P mode, but at least the final cloud can be erased off the screen, as evidenced during this run, some of the platform jumping suffers from MAJOR LAG on 2P mode, leading to unnecessary deaths!)
On a side note, the boss of Level 8 Intruder Excluder, Robo-Manus, while more awkward to battle than his NES counterpart, is EXTREMELY easy, if the Battletoad(s) reach him with a stick as demonstrated here, talk about FANTASTIC!
Anyone who wants to beat this game TOADALLY can, but I would highly recommend playing through the original NES version instead, trust me!
