Dual Universe Interview ► 40 Minutes About Gameplay, Limitations, & Kickstarter!
Dual Universe is an upcoming space sim with some interesting tech behind it. I conducted an interview with the CEO of Novaquark to find out more about the game. Questions I asked are listed below!

Dual Universe is a continuous Single-Shard sandbox MMORPG taking place in a multi-planets Sci-Fi world with player-driven in-game economy, politics, trade and warfare. Players can freely modify the world by creating structures, space ships, or orbital stations, giving birth to empires and civilisations.

Questions asked in this interview:
1. Contextual Questions [1:37]
a) Who are you, what's your background, and who are Novaquark?
b) If you only had 1 sentence to explain what Dual Universe is, how would you describe it?
c) So I mentioned sceptics when it comes to large in-development space sims, especially considering some of the games we've gotten recently. With the Kickstarter launching, what are you planning to do to build confidence in the game and that the promises being made are actually possible?
-
2. Gameplay Questions [9:13]
[on multiplayer]
a) I've heard a lot about Dual Universe being a 'single shard' when it comes to players being together. Can you elaborate on what that means?
b) I've played some MMOs where a lot of people play on the same server but most just wondered around doing their own thing. What's going to motivate players to interact and to actually build communities?
[on building]
c) You've recently shown off how to build your own spaceship on Dual Universe's YouTube channel. Basically, spaceships and buildings are a mix of voxel shapes and functional elements, and it seems like you can build whatever you want. Is there something that you can't build using these systems?
d) Can you place elements randomly on a cube and still get a functional ship or does your creation need to 'look right' when you put the pieces together?
e) How about buildings? Does gravity affect them? Do they need to be structurally sound or can blocks float in the air?
[on environments]
f) How alive are the planets you visit going to be? Are wild animals or weather planned?
g) Will there be survival elements? Radiation, fuel, energy, hunger, and all that?
[on combat]
h) Is there going to be ship-to-ship or first-person shooting combat in Dual Universe?
i) Can you attack, destroy, and capture other player's ships or buildings?
j) What happens when you die in-game?
[on structured gameplay]
k) Some space sims go for the open-world sandbox approach to gameplay while others are more structured with a storyline and quests. Is Dual Universe going to have a 'main storyline' or quests to follow, or will it be based entirely on how the players build and live in the world?
l) Is there a 'final goal' or 'end boss' in Dual Universe?
-
3. Kickstarter Questions [34:46]
a) Why did you decide to go the crowdfunding route?
b) Besides raising funds, what do you hope to achieve from the Dual Universe Kickstarter?
-
4. Ending Questions [37:30]
a) Anything else you'd like to tell us about the Dual Universe Kickstarter or the game itself?
b) What's coming up in the next 6 months?
c) Final question, besides Dual Universe, what is your favourite game of all time?
