Dungeon Clawler - Demo Of A Turn Based Rogue Where You Battle Using A Claw Machine! My First Run!
Dungeon Clawler is a Turn Based Rogue game that is coming out Q3 2024, so not too far off now. This game is being developed by Stray Faw Studio, and published by Stray Fawn Publishing and Playworks. It can be found on Steam at: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2356780/Dungeon_Clawler/
I saw this while looking for a new game to play on Steam (haven't been gaming much lately), and stumbled across this game in my Queue and figured I would give it a shot since it looked very different than your normal Rogue-type game. It's a fun game to play so far, even if it is just a demo!
The first thing I have to mention is that I don't know if there being no SFX is a bug, or they are just not in the game yet, but the SFX missing did stick out like a sore thumb to me. Definitely not a reason to not play this, it just felt very quiet to me, and I really wish I heard SFX during my almost 1 hour first playthrough.
The gameplay is really interesting. You play a claw game, but instead of prizes, you pick up attacks, abilities, items and healing. It's very different than dashing around and attacking everything on-screen. It takes a bit of skill (and luck), since you have to understand how claw machines work, BUT, at least in this game, the claw isn't cheap plastic that ALWAYS drops your prize. It will sometimes, but not like the ones in real life!
Nothing felt unexplained to me, as at any point, you can hover your mouse over anything on-screen, and a tooltip will appear letting you know more about it. That is very handy, as there are some buffs/debuffs you may not really understand, or want to get to know the enemies better, and what they can do. This can also be used to see what your enemies will do during their next turn.
There are a few characters unlocked right off the bat, each with their own strengths, weaknesses and abilities. I went with Count Clawcula, as I like vampirism in games, and he heals back 10% of damage dealt to enemies every hit. On the downside, he is unable to block damage (which I wasn't even thinking of during my run....don't build for anything that blocks damage if you use him...). Also, after my run, I unlocked a new character named Dolly for having reached floor 5.
All in all, I think this is an interesting idea, and it was definitely worth at least giving the demo a shot! If this interests you at all, I would say to give it a chance for yourself!
