I decided to look inside my Daewoo VCR combo and found that the disk drive connects using an IDE cable so I wondered what would happen if I connected one of the drives from my emachines PC and sure enough it works. I'm guessing the main board in that thing runs Linux or something since the player takes a while to turn on after pressing power
