A warning: I have not played this game in many years

Dwarf fortress is a game that really writes its own stories.

Sometimes it's about survival against the forces of evil, or the tale of dwarfs trying to eke out a living on a frozen icesheet with no resources on hand.

Through it all, your primary enemy is probably the goblins, while elves and humans rip you off with their caravan prices while hogging the world's overland resources for themselves.

The elves in particular are a tough lot to deal with. They worship trees and will eventually turn hostile if you cut too many down. But of course dwarfs want to cut down trees, they grow back anyway, and think of the industrial potential!

So in this fort I've set three goals:
* teach some basic concepts by establishing a fort in an calm, tree covered biome neighbouring the elves
* engage in ecologically reckless mega-engineering to maximise production and fortress wealth
* conquer the elven forest of our region, uniting two great realms of dwarf-kind, and securing a constant stream of tribute to our new bastion of dwarven industry.
