Dying Light: The Beast is a standalone, full-fledged sequel to the "Dying Light" franchise, not an expansion or DLC, despite its initial conception as DLC2 for "Dying Light 2". It features a new setting, the Castor Woods, a return of Kyle Crane, and a more focused story, aiming to refine the core "Dying Light" experience.

The game refines the core "Dying Light" mechanics, focusing on brutal combat, parkour, and survival horror.
"The Beast" reintroduces a stronger emphasis on survival horror, with more dangerous environments and intense encounters.

The game emphasizes a more aggressive, brutal combat style and a return to survival horror elements, while also incorporating elements from both "Dying Light" and its sequel.

A prevailing worry other fans, including myself, had with Dying Light: The Beast was that it was going to be a more bite-sized follow-up, but after my hands-on time, developer Techland had proven me wrong with the upcoming standalone game.

While originally planned as DLC, "The Beast" evolved into a separate game, offering a complete experience with its own story and price tag.

The scale of The Beast is much closer to the original Dying Light, which the devs have stated was the sweet spot when it came to playing the more aggressive take on their open-world survival game.
