A mere two years after the blockbuster release of Metroid Prime, Retro was ready to unleash its successor upon the world: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. A lot had changed in those two years, though. Would Echoes prove to be a sophomore slump, losing the immense momentum that had begun with Prime, or would it blow the original Prime out of the water with innovative gameplay and style?

Eh, sort of both and neither at the same time. Just like the duality of its Light and Dark worlds, Echoes is a game defined by contradictions. It's the middle of a trilogy, usually the linchpin of an extended story, yet Echoes barely advances the overall plot of the trilogy. It's a classic Metroid experience that also changes the basic structure radically enough to feel totally different from Prime. And despite its sober plot, full of references to war and hardship, it's also (at least to me) the most fun game in the trilogy.

In this middle section of the Cinnamon Noir Metroid Prime Trilogy Trilogy, we'll be discussing how Echoes holds up, both as a unique gaming experience and the centerpiece of one of fiction's most unorthodox trilogies.

Thanks for watching, everybody!
