Welcome to Aria of Sorrow! In this third and final Game Boy Advance Castlevania game, we take on the role of foreign exchange student and part-time jeans model Soma Cruz as he seeks to escape from Dracula's castle, a place magically trapped inside a solar eclipse since the last time Dracula bit the dust in 1999.

Aria is one of my favorite Metroidvanias ever, particularly because of its unique "tactical soul" magic system, which lets you use the special skills of enemies by acquiring their "souls" as rare drops. But this is also a game with a unique and well-written (also well translated, which was a rarity with this series) story, catchy music and a sophisticated aesthetic that gives it a lot of gravitas compared with sillier Castlevania entries (particularly its predecessor Harmony of Dissonance)

In this opening episode, we get our bearings inside the castle, acquire a few entry-level souls and meet up with some strange people, at least one of whom is probably the main villain. Probably.
