Bubba would be wild-like so I thought an Australian culture background would be suitable for his image as Marie's biological father who enjoys a good hunt.
Rod would be a simpleton like his daughter May, the sailor outfit is based on Ed's wedding garbage can including the ship in the bottle from the episode "run for your ed" as a reference for his character.

Mrs. Kanker is a single mother who runs the trailer park, she was married first to Butch, second Bubba and finally Rod whom she divorced. A very cruel woman who takes pleasure on beating her ex-husbands especially times when they are forced to come over to clean her trailer and pay child support. Despite how Butch, Bubba and Rod still have to put up with their ex-wife, she was still the gorgeous woman they fall in love and fear to respect.
