elementary OS is an Ubuntu-based desktop distribution. Some of its more interesting features include a custom desktop environment called Pantheon and many custom apps including Photos, Music, Videos, Calendar, Terminal, Files, and more. It also comes with some familiar apps like the Epiphany web browser and a fork of Geary mail.
Code-named “Odin”, the next major version of elementary OS 6 was in development for more than a year. And finally, the team announced the availability of the beta version for the general public. The early access builds (pre-release) were only available earlier for GitHub sponsors to support the development.
That said, this release brings an array of new features across the entire operating system. Core updates revamped look and feel and many new changes that are already completed from the development perspective.

The developers have published a new beta snapshot which previews features coming to elementary OS 6.0. There are many changes in the works, including an updated installer, dark theme, development tools, and additional support for Flatpak. "A major shift for elementary OS 6 is the inclusion of Flatpak apps out of the box, as well as an entirely Flatpak-based AppCenter ecosystem. We’ve created and are shipping a Flatpak platform and SDK that include all of the FreeDesktop, GNOME, and elementary libraries and technologies your apps will need to be built as a Flatpak - think of the platform as the elementary OS base in Flatpak form. We’ve updated the relevant developer docs to include information about packaging your app as a Flatpak. If you already have an app on AppCenter or are developing one for elementary OS 6, we highly encourage you to familiarize yourself with writing a Flatpak manifest and testing your app as a Flatpak, as all AppCenter apps in elementary OS 6 and beyond will be built as Flatpaks.

Here are some other changes in the new version of elementary OS:
screen locking and sleep experience should be much more reliable and predictable
improved accessibility features
improved notifications with emoji support
Epiphany browser becomes default
New Task app
Major rewrite of the Mail application
Option to show num lock and caps lock in the panel
Improved booting experience with OEM logo
Improved performance on lower-clocked processors and slower storage mediums like SD cards.
Download and install elementary OS 6 beta (for testing purpose)
Please note that the experimental support for Raspberry Pi like ARM devices is on pause for now. You won’t find beta download for ARM devices.
There is no way to update elementary OS 5 to the beta of version 6. Also note that if you install elementary OS 6 beta, you will not be able to upgrade to the final stable release. You’ll need to install it afresh.
Another thing is that some of the features I mentioned are not finished yet so expect some bugs and hiccups. It is better to use it on a spare system or in a virtual machine.
