PEUX OS | Minimal, Secure, And Highly Customized Arch Linux Distro | A Beautiful GNOME Desktop | POS
In This Video We Are Discussing About Peux OS is a Linux distribution based on Arch-Linux. It was initially a customized Arch Linux for the creator's personal use only. It was never really an idea to convert it into a distribution. COVID-19 boredom made it possible.
Peux represents the linux "Penguin with a tux".

Peux OS is a new distribution based on Arch Linux. I recently took a look at their flagship version featuring the XFCE desktop which you can click here to learn more about. I was very impressed with my run through of their XFCE desktop that I wanted to check out the other versions available. At the time of writing they currently have 2 other desktop versions which are LXQt and GNOME. I decided to take their GNOME desktop for a spin.
Peux OS uses BTRFS as its default file system and its default shell language is FISH. Peux OS includes Timeshift out of the box and is set up to automatically take snapshots before every upgrade. It uses Calamares for the installation and lets you choose which office applications to install before you boot off disk. It was installed on my machine in under 10 minutes. Much like their XFCE version they have customised the look and feel of the desktop on GNOME and have done a brilliant job. The out of the box look and feel is beautiful down to the themes, icons and extensions used. My only slight complaint is the default font.
You’ll find it comes installed with a generous amount of applications out of the box to get you up and running. Some of these applications are:
Firefox
Tor Browser
Elisa
Variety
Timeshift
It also includes software to allow you to run applications in a sandboxed jail. Installing new packages is a breeze with the Pamac-Manager which has AUR, Flatpak and Snap support built in.
All in all I’m very impressed with both versions of Peux OS I’ve checked out so far. All that is left for me to try is their LXQt version. If their LXQt version is anything like their XFCE and GNOME desktops are like then I’m excited to check it out.
Peux OS comes with four different desktop flavors: XFCE, LXQt, Gnome, and KDE. XFCE is the flagship. Out of these four versions: KDE, LXQt, and XFCE are the highly configured ones. Gnome is included because of its minimalism and stability.
KDE is the recent addition to the list. I've decided to keep it after receiving a fairly huge number of community requests. A small note for the KDE version: if your screen gets locked during live-session then use 'root' to unlock it.
Please note that if you are using UnetBootin/Etcher, then the boot-process is likely going to fail. To make a bootable USB, use Rufus-dd mode / dd - CLI mode / Multiwriter / Mintstick.
**Note: All the downloads are now moved to the stable branch. The aim is to keep it minimal rather than lightweight. You can download Peux OS from any of the below available sites. This project will improve with time.**
What makes Peux OS Special
Peux OS uses customized XFCE as its default-version. It uses Polybar as its default panel and is tied with apps that will help you secure your data and privacy. BTRFS is the default filesystem with autosnap enabled.
As any Arch Linux distributions, Peux OS comes with PACMAN as default cli package manager along with yay and pamac as alternatives. For GUI, use Pamac-Manager, with Flatpak and AUR support options in its settings.
It comes with four different desktop flavors: GNOME, KDE, LXQt and Xfce. XFCE is the flagship. Out of these four versions, LXQt and XFCE are both highly configured. GNOME is included because of its minimalism and stability, and KDE as been added with popular demand. This project will improve with time.
