Developed by Nirvana Systems and published by Ocean in 1991

Conceived by Damian Slee and Paul Ogelsby, Elf was one of my favourite games on the Amiga. The combination of beautiful artwork, vast levels, puzzles and interactive NPCs was a far cry from the games I'd been used to on the C64.

Underneath the glossy presentation, it's not entirely a bed of roses, however. The levels are often sprawling, interconnected affairs, and learning the layout of platforms is a time consuming affair. The dwarven mines, a myriad of doors, dead-ends and quest items camouflaged against the rocky backdrop of the vast caverns, are a complete nightmare. Finding your way - let alone solving the puzzles - becomes a real problem, and it's probably why, even as of today, I'm still the only person I know of who has a complete playthrough of the game available online.

The original video I released back in 2012 had some sync and audio issues, so I've recorded a new version to correct those particular deficiencies. I used my original longplay as a guide, so navigating levels was a lot easier this time around, and purchasing the flying machine on level 1 (not to mention the fact I didn't have to hunt around for 4 hours looking for the damn bone in the dwarf mines) meant I finished a good 20 minutes quicker too.
