I'm not claiming to be the fastest pilot, but here's a video of my 'speed exploring' technique.
One of the tips I wanted to note is that if you're not pointed directly at your next jump point, you can take all the time you need to bring up the system map. When your FSD is fully charged, it will stay in that state with the prompt to align with target until you either align or cancel the jump. Your ship will NOT heat up while in that state. An alternative method is to stay pointed at the next jump point but lower your throttle, it has the same effect.

One downside is that if you target an object while the FSD is charging, it won't stay targeted. You have to go back into the system map and target it again. Still better than having the ship jump out of the system before the system map loads if you didn't use this tip.

UPDATE: A friend informed me of another method he read about to make the temperature cool down quicker. Turn off your shield generator and power distributer. You will run a little cooler but the main advantage is being able to start the FSD charge sooner due to the quicker temperature cooldown. I'm now using this technique. Just remember to turn them back on if attempting a planetary landing or dropping out of super cruise into normal space flight.
