Elite Dangerous - This Is What Warp Looks Like From The Outside
I just decided to follow an NPC ship on a whim, and the hyperspace effect seen is impressive indeed.
UPDATE 2021 - Lately this video has been getting lots of views lately. To clarify a few things:
1 - This was recorded in 2014. Long before "external camera" function was available.
2 - The only view available was from the cockpit.
3 - We never saw what it looked like unless someone else (or an NPC) was the one jumping out.
4 - This "jump effect" was popularised by JJ Abrams in the movie Star Trek in 2009, so yeah what some people said "it's like Star Trek" is technically right, but not really. Star Trek traditional warp effect is a long trail of nacelle colour(s) with a thunderclap sound effect, not a "poof" like in the Star Trek 2009 movie, or in this game.
5 - Is it still being played in 2021? Of course. "Open" mode is the "MMO" mode. You can always log in to Open, but be prepared to be disappointed. Even at its peak, you RARELY ever see another player. Cuz space is big, like really really big. Everyone is somewhere, but not necessarily where you're at. Unless you're taking part in an event, you are unlikely to ever see another player for WEEKS if you play normally.
6 - This video was recorded to show a friend how cool it is in an effort to persuade him to play.
