Historically, Spain’s cultural and linguistic ties to Latin America have made it a popular destination for people from countries like Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela. Additionally, many immigrants from Morocco and other North African countries have moved to Spain due to geographical proximity and economic opportunities. In recent decades, people from Eastern Europe, particularly Romania, have also migrated to Spain in significant numbers, often seeking better job prospects.
Conversely, Spanish emigrants have traditionally moved to Latin America, especially during the 19th and early 20th centuries, with countries like Argentina, Mexico, and Cuba receiving large numbers of Spanish settlers.
