Enemy Infestation Intro & Gameplay - (PCem, No Commentary)
This is gameplay footage of Enemy Infestation, a Tactical Strategy Game released for the PC in 1998. It was developed by Micro Forte Pty Ltd and published by Ripcord Games. Its rather obscure and poses some challenges to get running on modern hardware. This playthrough is done through PCem running a Windows 98 VM (simulating a Pentium 2 266mhz and Voodoo 3).
I received this game as a gift back in the 90's. I have a love/hate nostalgia for it. As someone who struggles with strategy games, I found it quite difficult. And due to its rarity, Strategy guides are few and far between. The voice acting is quite hammy, but the sound effects and music are quite good. I really enjoy the premise as well as the presentation. There is a decent amount of atmosphere and tension for this type of game. By 1998 standards, the graphics were decent. The environmental design is particularly spectacular.
The gameplay loop requires a lot of trial and error methodology. Many of the weapons have unknown affects on the aliens until they are used. About half the time the weapons make the enemies more difficult (by making them larger, or duplicating them). Rooms are usually obscured from view if you aren't in them, so most of the levels require a considerable amount of exploration. Many elements such as healing take far too long, and battles are over far too quickly. As you progress through the games, the difficulty ramps up quickly. The reason this footage isn't longer is I haven't been able to complete the following level yet.
