263The 2004 movie Van Helsing, starring everyone’s favorite Hugh Jackman, has amassed a cult status over the years, but critics were not as forgiving when it first came out. The idea behind the film was ambitious indeed, creating a crossover of the classic Dracula tale inspired by Bram Stoker’s original work with other monster features like Frankenstein (inspired by Mary Shelley), Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and werewolves. If that was not enough, the titular character in the film was not the regular Abraham Van Helsing from Stoker’s book. He was based on the archangel Gabriel, who had descended on Earth and taken up a human identity to hunt monsters.
