Erika's Story
235In July 2013, 22-year-old Erika was involved in a serious all-terrain vehicle (ATV) accident during a family reunion weekend at Lake Ponderosa near Montezuma, Iowa. Erika sustained multiple injuries, including a compound fracture in her left arm, a broken left leg, and fractures to her pelvis, vertebrae, and wrist. She was transported by helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where trauma surgeons, nurses, and other specialists provided around-the-clock care. In this video, Erika -- along with her father, Tony, and her aunt, Holly -- describe her accident and the care she received.
