[Escape] #76 - Archives || Virtue's Last Reward (Interactive, 100%)
Part 76 of my interactive 100% playthrough of Virtue's Last Reward on the Nintendo 3DS.
In this part, we solve the puzzles from the Archives with Clover and Luna. Here are some explanations for the puzzles found in this room:
—— Bookshelf Management ——
In the bookshelves on the right of the exit, you can find four books that stick out of the bunch. These books need to be re-arranged. Each book has a unique title, and some clues on the back for another book. The numbers refer to the management chart, which can be found on the screen in the middle of the room. The letter stands for the column (starting from the small boookshelf on the right of the exit), the first two numbers are for the row, and the last two numbers are for the position of the book in the shelf. Those clues can also be helpful if you have trouble finding the books, since each clue refers to a possible book location. So, just replace the books according to the clues on the back of each, and you will solve that puzzle, creating a stairway to the lion doll by the same occasion.
—— The Box Lock ——
This puzzle can be started by examining the lock on the metal box on the left of the exit. On the box, you can see a mathematical equation involving three dice of different colors. This equation is the key to solve the puzzle. The numbers you're seeking are the weight of each die, so first you need to use the scale to know their weight, using the 50g weight and other dice if necessary. Once you know the weights of each die, all you have to do is solve the equation and input it on the lock. Don't forget about priorites in operations though: multiplication must always be done before addition. So, you need to actually solve the equation like this: B+(GxR). Once you've solved it, the lock will unlock and you'll be able to open the metal box.
—— The Dice Puzzle ——
To start this puzzle you need to insert the blue memory card inside the pedestal in the middle of the room. You'll also need the "Bookmark" archive, which can be found in the book inside the metal box. The archive shows a pattern a colored squares. You'll notice this is the same pattern as in the dice puzzle, seen in a different angle. What you need to do is to put all dice on the pattern, making sure that each die is the same color as what's shown on the bookmark. Doing so will get you the bonus file (blue) password.
To get the escape (green) password, you need to do an extra step. You need the "Report" archive, which can be found by using the cylinder of the music box with the ink and paper. That archive shows a series of dots that doesn't make a lot of sense on its own. However, if you mentally cover those dots with the colored squares of the "Bookmark" archive, you'll see that each square has a specific number of dots in it. The dots in each square represents the face of the die that must be pointing upwards while solving the puzzle. So, you need to put each die in place with the corresponding color AND number.
That can be a bit hard, but for starters, most dice combinations can be gotten by just making U-turns with the die, so it moves in a circle. If you can't get the desired number on the pattern, but can on the tile next to the desired location, that means you're using the wrong die. Try with the other die of the same color, and you'll most likely have better luck. Also, when you're positioning your last die, make sure that it will land in the correct position on the first try, because if it doesn't, the puzzle will reset, thinking you went after the blue password, rewarding you with some frustration in the process.
