Esp Plays: Fallout 3 - Part 3 - Those! [No Commentary]
Journal #2: Dear Journal - I find myself wounded, short on supplies, and stuck in a dark, dank, subterranean hollow... I wish I was talking about the safe recesses of Vault 101, but alas I think I may have gotten myself into truly dire straights.
I woke up in my bed, in the Megaton common house, this morning with renewed fortitude. The foul stench of my bed kept me up for several hours, but at one point or another my fatigue bested me, and I drifted off to slumber. I set my pipboy to wake me up at 7AM, and thus it did. After bartering with Moira, the eccentric town shopkeeper, I decided to set out on some of the tasks I was given by some of the townsfolk. The settlers here in Megaton were good enough to give me some directions to some of the points of interest outside of Megaton, and I figured stopping at the Super-Duper Mart would be the closest and likely easiest of the tasks I'd been delegated with. Moira asked me to stop in and see if scavenging for food and medicine in these shops, which should be plentiful across the wastes, was still a viable option. Seeing as I myself was running short on supplies, this seemed like the most prudent course of action to take; hoping my own luck would lead to some undiscovered treasure troves.
As I neared the rear of the store, I suddenly heard a lot of commotion. A lot of yelling, and gunfire. Drawing my weapon, and staying low I moved closer to investigate. From a distance I witnessed a murderous hood engaged with one of the spherical eyebots i've spotted floating around playing that one strange radio station. It seems these bots are armed with a rather potent, and rather deadly laser weapon as the hood was no match for the eyebot. Once the danger had passed, I moved closer to investigate only to come across a frantic young boy by the name of Bryan Wilks. He was desperate for help as "monsters" had attacked his town, and he feared for his fathers safety. I couldn't very well leave this poor young boy to fend for himself, so I gathered some supplies off of the fallen miscreant, as well as his victim - a poor bastard of a trader who was likely in the wrong place at the wrong time, along with his dog.
Bryan led me to a ghost town of a settlement known as Grayditch. It was almost completely void of life. Almost... The town had been completely overrun by giant FIRE BREATHING ants! Yes! Fire breathing! Wanting to complete my task, and find the boy's father, I charged headlong into the Wilk's burning homestead, only to find the Senior Wilks' lifeless body, alongside several of those other abominations. Seems he took a few with him before being consumed by the flame. With a laden heart, I returned to the boy to give him the sad news.
Acting, perhaps out of my own hubris, what I did next I find myself bitterly regretting as I sit here writing this, fearing for my life. I swore to that young boy that I would seek out the cause of this monstrous aberration and bring an end to it. This led me down the Marrigold subway tunnels where I ran a foul of several of these horrendous creatures. I've managed to survive thusfar... But my body is wounded and my flesh is singed. And I find myself completely depleted of munitions.
I stumbled upon, or rather hobbled my way into, the makeshift Laboratory of a Dr. Lesko, the place I'm actually writing this now. The Doctor seems to be the man behind this insanity, but his intentions seemed noble enough. Through the incitement of genetic mutation, he intended to reduce the ants back to normal insect size. This backfired somehow, instead imbuing these creatures with an additional, and rather deadly, defense mechanism.
Dr. Lasko believes if I can take out the queen's 4 guardians, the rest of the colony will be pacified into submission, thus solving our little problem. But I'm in no shape to proceed any further. So now, I find myself asking... Do I journey further? Attempting by some miracle to take out the nest guardians and render the colony inert. Or do I go back to the surface, with just as great a risk of clashing with more of these creatures, as well as the various dangers I've but sampled on the surface... One thing is for certain... This "Capital Wasteland" is a much more dangerous place than I could've ever imagined...
