EVE ONLINE - Alpha Survival Guide: Hacking GHOST SITE (can i survive the explosion?)
28As an Alpha you will find many Level III data sites (Improved *pirate-type* Covert Research Facility) as known as GHOST SITES. Best to avoid these, because if you fail a hack or the rats come when you are hacking, you will be KILLED by the cans exploding for about 12000HP of damage.
But with the Astero fitting i use, it can tank that damage, which allows very low risk and the ability to hack more data cans. Most GHOST SITES in NULL average about 100M ISK.
Technique:
1) switch Astero to the Explosive Armor Hardener fit
2) fly to the nearest planet or spot to the site
3) start reps on the 3 Armor Hardeners, should have 85% explosive defense
4) warp to site and fly towards any can
5) you can use 1 rep of the MWD to get to cans faster
6) scan all the cans to plan the order of cans to hack
7) try to hack all cans, or fly out if you get the best loot
8) the second the RATS appear, warp out! (you have 10 seconds)
BREAK DOWN OF DAMAGE:
(10,000 Explosive Damage)
Shield: 1177 @ 50% dmg = 2354HP
(10,000 - 2,354 = 7,646 Explosive Damage gets past shields)
Armor: 1625 @ 85% dmg = 10,833HP
(10,833 - 7,646 = 3,187 * (100-85%) = 478 Armor remains)
ACTUAL ARMOR LEFT: 432 (rounding errors)
