okay, so i know a few things by now about this ubiquitous audio bug.

1) it'll follow you everywhere even through a session change
2) you won't hear it during an actual gate transit
3) you will hear it if you go to login screen
4) it has baby bugs that accompany it (the ship effect/ambience sliders are ignored, and can't be fixed by #5)
5) you can fix it by either a hard restart of the client OR turning off/on the main audio toggle (and waiting for a session change to hear stuff again, including landing on a grid from warp)
6) you can fix #4 by fiddling with the sliders (i have not tested whether fiddling with the basic 'world' slider fixes this, yet)
7) It's mostly a Stargate hum/buzz for me, but i do remember having issues with POCO doppler sounds that resembled my current focus (following me everywhere even to login screen)
8) you can mute it when switching to another window (browser, third party prog, another eve client, etc) by toggling the inactive client muting [i prefer to call it "client continuity"]
9) it's almost impossible to 'repro' this bug, and in almost 10 years since Team Klang caused the community to start complaining in 2012ish about sound issues, i doubt CCP nor it's volunteer bug hunter dept have a clue....and i VERY much suspect that people only started noticing these issues because the advanced sliders let us distinguish one set of buzzes from another way way more easily, and i'll bet those ex-devs who were programmers back in the beta days totally made a FUBAR mess out of the spagetti code for audio...why do i think this? because [a] the bug thinks it's a deployable for non-fullscreen background/inactive setting, [b] i remember turning off the music because the more clients i had the worse the cracking and popping of the music ingame, [c] let alone me not noticing the more serious underlying noise bugs that just sounded like white noise to me.
10) i hope, eventually, over the years (i don't take a DST/freighter through high sec to jita and back very often) to amass documentation in expectation of eventually noticing a pattern that noone else considers 'there'...i'll do this by sliding atmosphere to 100% then back down again to 10% whenever i enter warp. (i could leave it at 100% but i'm not interested in blowing my eardrums off)
11) and since ccp is most likely going to bollocks it up if/when i do manage to 'reproduce' this bug, brag about fixing it for at least two patches, and then sweep it under the rug and go on brownnosing their investors with promises of NEW SHINY THINGS, therefore why the fuck should i give a shit about them and the community feedback they pretend to listen to - my main focus is on sharing what conclusions and workarounds we can make to nip this bug in the bud before it annoys us by ruining our immersion.
12) because quite frankly, dear audience, i would rather know where the hornet is than listen to its buzz/hum and not know where the hell it is.
