EVERSPACE 2 is the direct sequel to the Kickstarter-funded original, EVERSPACE. It launched Day One on Xbox Gamepass.
STORY: Only one life to live - You play as one of the surviving clone pilots who defeated Admiral Gorc. Wanted by the authorities for being an illegal and rogue clone pilot, you are trying to stay low and make a living as a space miner under false identity. Of course, fate has bigger plans for you. Soon you will find yourself at the center of a sci-fi story about a former military clone discovering what it means to be human.
EVERSPACE 2 is a space action / adventure game where you largely pilot a spacecraft and spend your time completing missions to find materials, mine (with your ship's lasers), craft necessary items and explore beautiful varied environments, all while engaging in epic battle against space pirates and the military.
๐น๏ธ First Play Impression โโโโโโ
Pros:
โ
beautiful graphics that make everything more fun to explore and fight
โ
well designed controls that make piloting your ship, exploring and fighting all feel intuitive
โ
gameplay is fairly straightforward, but fun
โ
great warm up to get ready for Starfield
Cons:
โ Animation style of cutscenes doesn't seem to really fit the overall aesthetic of the game, and kind of killed the momentum and vibe for me each time one would
โ Design choice of entering a new planet's atmosphere is very odd, as you fly seemingly close to a smaller rendition of a planet, but then the game doesn't smoothly transition to the next scene where the planet is scaled properly and you're in it's orbit. It was rather jarring for me, and killed the feeling of realism each time it would happen.
Verdict:
๐ If you have an Xbox Series console with Xbox Gamepass, and you like great-looking space-themed shooters with story and exploration elements, you definitely need to give this a try. Of course, once Starfield is released, I'm not sure I'll keep playing.
Although the action in EVERSPACE 2 is a bit more straightforward than what Starfield is sure to be, so if you want to jump in and just shoot up some space pirates for a bit, EVERSPACE 2 might be just what you're looking for. Conversely, if you don't have an Xbox, then EVERSPACE 2 might just be your best space-action fix for being left out of the Starfield mania, as it's a good game in its own right and it is very good looking.
[This is a new format I'm trying out, and I'd love to know if you found the above information interesting and informative. Let me know in the comments.]
