The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a new asymmetrical horror survival game from the creators of the recent Friday the 13th game (which was also an asymmetrical horror survival game). Unlike some other games in this genre, like Dead by Daylight, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre pits 3 killers ("Family Members") against 4 survivors in a deadly game of cat and mouse, where the survivors attempt to complete tasks to escape the Family's compound, and the killers attempt to hunt them down and stop them.
Unlike Dead by Daylight, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre doesn't feature cameo killers (at least not yet) and really focuses on recreating the atmosphere of the film. The graphics look excellent and really do a great job of recreating the creepy farmhouse and surrounding area from the classic movie, plus everything seems more grounded in reality than DbD, with its supernatural Entity pulling the strings.
πΉοΈ First Play Impression ββββββ
Pros:
β
great graphics and atmosphere really recreate the feeling of the movies
β
excellent sound design perfectly compliments the graphics to add to the experience
β
gameplay is really fun as both killer and victim, which not all similar games can say
β
working together with other killers is something other games in this genre don't have
Cons:
β Leatherface is a lot harder to control than I would have liked, which takes a little of the fun away when playing as him (but of course the victims need some kind of chance to survive)
β Recommended brightness setup can make the underground areas so dark its easy to lose victims you're trying to catch (but this can be adjusted if you want)
Verdict:
π For anyone who subscribes to Xbox Gamepass, this game is a no brainer. Install it and play it now. It's lots of fun. For anyone paying full price, if you like these types of asymmetrical horror survival games, you should probably go for it. The game is very well made and different enough from prior games in its genre that it feels fresh. Even if Dead by Daylight never clicked for you, you should give this one a shot; it might just change your mind.
