"Everything Everywhere All at Once" (2022) directed by Daniel Kwan & Daniel Scheinert was an unwatchable movie that made me emotionally distraught and physically nauseated start to finish. How so many people can give this one a perfect score is completely beyond me, and I am apparently in an extreme minority here . . . But I did want to mention that I am autistic in real life which I felt contributed to the pain since this film is extremely triggering to those with sensory and or emotional regulation issues.

Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh) is a mother who feels unaccomplished in her life. To make matters worse, her daughter is dating a woman instead of a man which will confuse and upset Evelyn's father who won't be alive for much longer (Chinese cultural / societal issue), her husband is divorcing her, and she is about to be charged with fraud for lying to government services. Things then take a rapid and jarring twist into crazy land when her husband from another universe teaches her how to transport herself across the multiverse. Evelyn is one of thousands of Evelyns out there, but this Evelyn is special because her life is considered a failure and in this film's logic, that means she is destined to be the greatest and most powerful Evelyn of them all when unlocking her potential as a dimensional traveller, and she must choose whether to and how to defeat her own daughter since her own daughter's alternate version is the "big bad" of the various worlds . . . At least that's what I was able to gather / interpret from the film, I am not someone to look up synopsis's, I always put them in my own words as best as I can, but I definitely could be getting a few things wrong here.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is exactly what the titles implies, which I was too dumb to realize beforehand. I didn't know what to expect exactly when I put the disc in for this one, but I assure you it was not this. I think what it was supposed to be, and probably is to the majority of viewers, is an outlandishly creative narrative that entertains you with it's wild shenanigans and martial arts, as well as overly provocative humor and out of place events. If you were able to enjoy this one, then I have nothing against you and I totally understand why.

The reason I was unable to enjoy it was for two primary reasons. The first reason, which hopefully most of you should be able to understand, is that it's an extremely derivative copycat of "The Matrix" (1999) that is far more difficult to properly follow along and comprehend. The second reason, which you may not be able to understand (And that's totally fine), is that the film made me both physically and emotionally ill. It made me physically ill because of the non stop quick cuts, flashing lights and colors, general dizziness and feeling of zero gravity to it, and it made me emotionally ill because of how uncomfortable this insane and incomprehensible story is, as well as taking deep dives into serious emotional moments unexpectedly and too often. I've never experienced something quite like this, and I am going to blame it on the fact I am on the spectrum; I don't think my senses and brain could handle everything that was being thrown at it, at this pace . . . At about 1 hour 30 minutes I nearly threw up and when I took a large break to come back to it, I was on the verge of crying trying to get through the rest of it because I don't review movies unless I fully complete them start to finish, and I actually purchased a 4K copy of this one so I felt obligated to.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is a nihilistic gut punching film that made me genuinely uncomfortable and want to throw up from it's distorted nature. Even if you disagree with that, I don't know how anyone can give this is a perfect score considering how much it's copying The Matrix which is a far superior film to this.
