Everything is Broken Up and Dances | Edoardo Nesi | Talks at Google
Edoardo Nesi is a writer, translator, filmmaker, and politician who won the Strega Prize in 2011 for his book, Story of my People. In this latest book, Everything is Broken Up and Dances, he and co-author Guido Maria Brera chronicle the tumultuous years of this century, and the deleterious effect that economic globalization has had on the middle class across Europe and America.
While visiting America to promote the English translation of this book, Nesi sat down with Googler Marzia Polito to discuss everything from how Nesi and Brera met, to how the political climate in Italy has shifted as a result of the economic turmoil that it has faced in the past couple of decades. From the collapse of the small, family-owned textile industries (thanks to the cheap and plentiful disposable fabrics being made "in the name of fashion"), to the complexities of the European Union's attempts to bail out countries in debt, Nesi and Polito tackle each topic with the gusto that endears us to our Italian friends. The talk is thought-provoking, inspiring, and perhaps even life-changing.
