A good way to start off the year I think is final fantasy. Final Fantasy 7 Crisis Core reunion launched in mid December of last year to a pretty damn good reception. It ain't putting up call of duty numbers but it did rank number 8 in the UK retail charts in its launch week.
Spoiler alert for Final Fantasy 7 Remake but If you were hoping to see more of everyone's hyperactive squat master himbo Zack then you won't have to worry. It was a huge surprise to everyone when the loveable dummy managed to not only survive the events of final fantasy 7 remake due to all sorts of nomura-esque destiny altering shenanigans but put in an appearance in the FF7 Remake DLC chapter. In the latest himbo news, Zack's Japanese voice actor, Kenichi Suzumura, has said in a recent Famitsu interview that the character will play “an active role” in its upcoming sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. How great a role remains to be seen.
As for the next title in the 7 saga Final Fantasy 7 rebirth; In a New Year’s message, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase said that the game’s development is “accelerating” and teased another “big announcement”- but stopped short of saying what exactly it is, and when we can expect it. In another message shared via Famitsu, Kitase said he hopes to share another update on the game “when the timing is right.” So far all we know about a release date is some time in the winter of 2023 which could mean anything from December to as late as March 2024 for all we know. I highly doubt we will get any real news concerning Rebirth until after the release of Final Fantasy 16.
Final Fantasy 16 as we know will launch on June 23 this year. There is a lot of hype surrounding this title with it regularly taking the top spot in famitsu's most wanted title. We know the game is expected to be a hell of a show since it's rated M and based on that last trailer from the game awards they are not planning to pull any punches. The bastards killed a chocobo!
Let's move onto what we can expect from side games and remasters in the near future. Since we already talked Final Fantasy 7 remake we might as well bring up ever crisis. The beta, which was originally scheduled for last year has been pushed back to this summer.
In other news Square Enix officially announced that Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster will launch in Spring 2023 for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The series features remasters for Final Fantasy 1-6, and was first released for PC, iOS and Android last year. Strangers of paradise the oddball souls like reimagining of final fantasy is getting its final bit of dlc soon. Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin received two major expansions with Trials of the Dragon King and Wanderer of the Rift, the third and final expansion, Different Future, is releasing this month as part of the games season pass. I only just picked up strangers of paradise as part of a holiday sale so I got some catching up to do but this looks like a hell of a ride. Everything from Lincoln park to time travel to moogles getting cursed at. Gotta love whatever it is these folks have been smokin.
Before we go i'd be remiss to not mention the persistent rumors that there is an impending announcement of another final fantasy project. This is all rumor and speculation however sp take it with a pile of salt. The word around the interwebs is that sometime so we can expect an announcement of a final fantasy 9 remake. I'd love this as much as the next person and if a game deserves a remake it's 9 but like I said this is just rumor and these rumors pop up every few months so i figure best just to wait and see and not raise your hopes up to unreasonable levels.
